My name is Jan Klimala. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and learned how to read music before I learned to read words. I started playing the accordion when I was five years old and was hooked on music. When I got to high school my parents told me I needed to learn a band instrument. I chose flute, and combined with my passion for teaching, I went on to earn both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education.
I taught middle and high school band, and private flute students in Indiana after receiving my Master’s Degree from Indiana University. Later I entered the business world, moved to California, and worked as a manager for The Wall Street Journal for 25 years, before I had the opportunity to return to my true love of teaching music.
I have been a MUSE band director for over 14 years. I retired in 2017 but still work with M.U.S.E. from time to time and I am very happy to be at St. Joseph Pinole working with Rebecca Monson as we continue to build the program
