Jan Klimala- Contact: janklimala@aol.com

Our Lady of Grace

My name is Jan Klimala. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and learned how to read music before I learned to read words.  I started playing the accordion when I was five years old and was hooked on music.  When I got to high school my parents told me I needed to learn a band instrument.  I chose flute, and combined with my passion for teaching, I went on to earn both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Music Education.

I taught middle and high school band, and private flute students in Indiana after receiving my Master’s Degree from Indiana University.  Later I entered the business world, moved to California, and worked as a manager for The Wall Street Journal for 25 years, before I had the opportunity to return to my true love of teaching music.

For the past eight years, I have been a MUSE band director, currently teaching at six private elementary schools in the East Bay.  I also to teach private music lessons and am a flute coach at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward.
